Pediatrics
Children come to the hospital for a variety of illnesses, ranging from intestinal and respiratory infections to malnutrition. Our neonatal special care unit is typically filled to capacity, providing support to preterm infants. A Nutritional Rehabilitation Unit (NRU) cares for severely malnourished children, providing nutritious meals, stimulus from bright colors and music, and education for the parents.
Many of the children who are admitted to the NRU come from mountain communities where the agricultural conditions don’t provide enough to support the local families. To better serve these upland areas, HAS plans to develop NRUs within our two primary health locations in the mountains. Demand for our NRU services doubles during the summer rainy months.
