Water and Sanitation

Access to clean water is a key to overall community well-being. Waterborne diseases, like the devastating cholera outbreaks recently experienced, are stark reminders of the importance of this issue. Far too many people within our service area do not have access to protected water sources and are at risk for infection. HAS is working to change that.

For many years, HAS has led a comprehensive development program, in partnership with rotary clubs, to construct wells, cap open springs and build latrines.  In addition to adding safe water sources, HAS continues to monitor and assist with repair of current facilities to ensure that these investments continue to function.

"Thanks to the many Rotary Clubs and friends of Haiti, our goal for drilling 200 wells has been reached. Drilling wells and installing pipelines are important, but there is more to be done. Our fundraising programs now include latrines and education for Haitian adults and children." -Roy Sheldrick, Volunteer Rotarian
