Rotary Club donates $25,000 to Hôpital Albert Schweitzer Haiti.

This past November, the Rotary Club of Key West, Florida presented a $25,000 check to Hôpital Albert Schweitzer ( HAS ) Haiti for renovations of the campus potable water system. This year the rotary hopes to raise an additional $10,000 to cover the remaining costs associated with this desperately needed overhaul.

Rotarian and long time supporter of HAS , Ed Knight, invited Carolyn Grady, HAS Chief Development Officer, to visit the Key West Rotary and update the club on the hospital's work. During Carolyn's talk, she spoke of the challenges that the hospital staff encounter on a daily basis. For example, though the hospital itself has a continuous supply of water throughout the day, residents on campus must make do with only two hours. The Key West Rotary gift to update the aging water infrastructure will positively impact both patients and staff.

A powerful reflection on how greatly this project will help the people of the Artibonite Valley came after Carolyn's speech when Rotarian Rudy Molinet poured a glass of water and pointed out to the group how we take for granted easy access to water each and every day, while most in the Artibonite struggle constantly for a simple, thirst-quenching glass of water.

The Rotary motto “service before self” rings true as this generous gift will ensure clean drinking water – the most basic public health need – to patients, their families and the employees who care for them.
